ABOUT SALLIE

Hi, I'm Sallie Fisher

My love for the Western way of life, and just plain down right country life came from my up bringing taking every step my Little Papa (Grandfather) took as a true Tom Boy in my adolescence, and then his love of Rodeo as I grew into a teenager, and then adult hood.

I guess you could say Western Art, and the Cowgirl way is my passion …

Spending many years raising my two Girls who has bless me with 3 Grandchildren, and 3 Great-grandchildren.

Fast forward to the 70’s when I was able to turn my love of Rodeo, and Western Art into a reality opening a Western Art Gallery that later developed into one of the largest in the Southwest. Selling it by the end of the 70’s, and relocating further west. Getting closer to my true passion of being back in the saddle again.

Moving on to the 80’s. One night at a Rodeo in Katy, Texas my life changed forever. I truly was back in the saddle again. I was blessed to have the love of a gentle giant named Chance. I was part of a life style of breaking Longhorns, traveling the Rodeo’s, an appearance on the David Letterman Show. (Dropin a 2000 lb. Brahman Bull out of a trailer in downtown Manhattan was awesome to this old Country Girl). Standing in the middle of the empty Astrodome looking up at history, after performing there. Our ride took us coast to coast with up’s and down’s. I’ve felt the excitement of spot lights hitting me in the face as I rode an arena. I’ve entertained Presidents, Queen’s, leaders of all parts of the World at the Economic Summit. I’ve fed animals, been hooked, bucked off, thrown, trumped thru mud, blood, and maybe a little beer. I was blessed to have met greats like Edd Hayes, Sculptor Artist of Texas, Buck Taylor known for his role of Newly on Gunsmoke, and noted Watercolor artist of Westerns. Edd, Buck and I remain close friends to this day. All of these experiences in the 80’s always led me back to my continued love of Western Art. I guess you could say I am a true Texas Cowgirl!

“It Was A Great Ride”
Moving on to the 90’s. A big life change with my move to Tomball, Texas to look after, and take care of my Parents. I still had my animals, and still able to keep anchored to my country way of life. I was Bless to have met Travis Whitaker, and went to work for him as his office manager. Trav was truly my mentor as he gave me the vision of “always give to your community, and it will give back to you.” In the early part of the 90’s I was presented “Volunteer of the Year,” Tomball Chamber of Commerce. On the front of my desk hung a sign reading, “If Ya Ain’t Got A Longhorn, Ya Ain’t From Texas.” My eyes still on my dream of opening another Western Art Gallery.

In July of 1998 my dream was once again realized with the help of two great folks.

In the year 2000 enters Bill. Bill has a god given talent of patience, and he immediately started doing all of the framing which quickly grew our Quality Custom Framing Department. The gallery has made several moves the last years, always bigger, and better.

Bill is from a small town in Alabama, and we continue to live the country way. Bill and I have traveled many back roads. We are both members of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Safety Committee. Bill being a member since he came to Texas, and I am a Lifetime Member starting my 29th year.

In 2003 Bill and I became Volunteer’s In Policing, continuing to serve our Community, and the Tomball Police Department. Being a large part of the growth of the VIP Program. We went on to be honored jointly with Volunteer of The Year Tomball Police Department in 2006. And, several years later we were once again honored to receive Volunteer of the year Tomball Police Department. In the fall of 2018 we retired our service to the ever Great Tomball Police Department after thousands of hours volunteering. Bill and I feel more than blessed to have had all those years being considered family to the Guys in Blue. I created a slogan that hangs in the VIP Office to this day. “Volunteering In Policing, The Eyes For The Guy’s”.

On a beautiful day in August we were faced with another life changing event! I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. The next 2 years were filled with uncertainty as I faced Chemo, Surgery, and Radiation. We continued to keep the Gallery open, and with the undying support of Bill, Tomball’s Finest, and lots of prayers I was declared Cancer Free.

We continue to travel to art shows, and follow Buck Taylor to Ft. Worth, Branson, and other places. We attended the Texas Walk of Fame in Ft. Worth to honor James Arness of Gunsmoke fame just last year.

With the help of Edd Hayes we were able to have James Drury of The Virginian fame for the Holiday Parade in Tomball, Texas, and a Meet and Greet at our Gallery afterwards. The Gallery appearance was James last personal appearance as he died shortly after. I had met James back in the day at a Ben Johnson Celebrity Ropin. He took a picture on Chance, and actually remembered it.

Living the life surrounded by the art world, and the artist that make it happen is one of the great joys of being part of this great adventure.

Bill and I are bless to have walked along side World Renowned Artist, and Dear Friend Larry Dyke. We’ve walked the banks of the James River with Lar, dodged prickly pear in a golf cart on Lar’s beloved hill country home. We’ve laughed till our sides hurt, rummaged through antiques shops, and we’ve shed a few tears of sadness. I have sat by Lar’s side in the early morning hours whatchin him paint his next great masterpiece. We so cherish all the wonderful memories of times spent with Lar through the last 35 years. Bill and I are honored to have our initials on a rock in Lar’s painting, and limited edition giclee “Cliffs of the Nueces”.

And so, this Great Adventure through the western way of living through the art we sell, and the Folks we meet continues. Each day is a new Discovery! And with God’s Grace we will give life our BEST Shot!
